I grew up in a very small town in northwest Oklahoma. I loved being near my family and living on the farm, but I knew there had to be more out there than what my small town had to offer (I had real Belle vibes, longing for “adventure in the great wide somewhere”). I’m making myself sound like the great adventurer. I just moved three hours east to another small town in northeast Oklahoma (are there any big towns here??). It was just enough for me, though! My hometown is one of those vacuum-type places. If you don’t leave the moment you get the opportunity, then you never will. Ninety-nine percent of people either never leave, or they always find their way back. My parents were the people who ended up finding their way back. My sister moved away, and ended up finding a way back. I moved away, bought a house, and vowed never to return. A bit dramatic? Maybe, but you can never be too careful.
So, there’s the story of how I ended up in the Tulsa metro. I got an associate degree at a local college. Then I got a bachelor’s degree. Then, for whatever reason, I got a master’s degree too. I’m a bit of a collector at this point. Nevertheless, it got me on the path of loving to write, research, and learn. It even gave me the skills to start up my side hustle where I do resume assistance, social media content creation, signage, and other stuff (click here if you’d like to check that out). Recently, I even started a podcast where I discuss college. I give listeners my best advice for surviving and thriving in college! You can check out Surviving College with Holly Morris here, or search for it wherever you find your podcasts.
I am married to my high school sweetheart, and we have one chiweenie named Tod. Even though we haven’t been on this earth for very long, we have each been through a lot. Between our years in college, my career in education, my husband’s career in law enforcement, getting married, buying a house, losing loved ones, and all the other stuff in between, I don’t think I will ever run out of things to write about. So, grab your popcorn, your tissues, and a poncho. Please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle for the duration of the ride. Enjoy!
For when I’m feeling melancholy…
After the rain, the sun will reappear. There is life. After the pain, the joy will still be here.
