As 2020 comes to a close, I think we can all agree that this has really not been anyone’s year. There have been a few good things, of course. The music has been incredible, people had babies, people got married, the election (depending on who you are), the fact that people in this country are finally waking up to racism in America, and so on. 2020 also had some bad stuff, though. COVID, riots, death, police brutality, the election (again, depending on who you are), and the insane fires around the globe, just to name a few. With all that happened this year, I decided it could be interesting to write a series of blogs posts about the hot topics of the year!
Examples include:
– COVID-19 (an overview)
– My journey with COVID-19
– The gender reveal that almost killed everyone on the west coast
– Black Lives Matter
– LGBTQ+
– Working in education during COVID
– Police brutality and being married to an officer during civil unrest
– Trump trying to visit Tulsa, OK on Juneteeth
– The general lessons that 2020 forced me to learn the hard way
If you can think of any other topics you’d like to hear about from 2020, please leave me a comment! This list is not comprehensive, and I will probably add more later. I don’t necessarily have a schedule for when I am going to release all of these posts. Many of them require a fair amount of research (because I refuse to put information on the internet without first researching its accuracy). So, these will likely be released sporadically within the coming months, but I will also be writing about other topics between these articles.
One of my favorite things about writing is that it opens a safe space for dialog. I want people to comment and share their thoughts, experiences, and opinions! I simply request that it is done in a respectful way. The great Patrick Stump once tweeted, “Never apologize for having an opinion. Apologize when you’re rude about it.” My blog is a safe space for you to share your opinion and discuss the opinions of others. It is a place where we can all have a conversation to discuss both sides of the argument, without having to argue about who is right. Comments that express a(n) opinion/experience/feeling different than my own are ALWAYS welcome. We can’t learn if we are not willing to listen. However, comments that are filled with hatred, explicit language, or threats will not be permitted here.
I can’t wait to get these started! I am excited to hear everyone’s stories from this year! Again, drop me a comment below if you have anything you’d like to add.
